Welcome!
My name is Lynn Smith, and I am excited to be teaching at the Atlanta Academy. I plan to follow the same schedule and routines as Mrs. Slater and Mrs Miranda Smith. We will continue to read the classic literature that the classes have already begun reading. The sixth grade's next book is Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Patterson. The seventh grade's next book is The Giver by Lois Lowry. The eighth grade's next book is Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at lsmith@atlantaacademy.com.
The Spring is an exciting time at The Atlanta Academy. The classic books selected for our reading class are thought provoking. Our class will follow up each book segment with a discussion and writing assessment based on these thoughts. Our writing classes will be packed with lessons promoting a clearer understanding of language arts, presenting new techniques, ideas and proofing tips. We will also be continually increasing vocabulary through vocabulary units, reading new words and examining several Greek and Latin roots words prefixes and suffixes.
Just a reminder, if you are absent from class for Chorus, Band, Seusicial or any other extra-ciricular activity,I support your participation, however, it is your responsibility to check in with me during recess on that day (or make other arrangements). I can give you the worksheets and chapters covered in class, you can copy the homework and I will explain the lesson and answer any questions. I am happy to keep our active team learning and growing!! Please remember however, that it is your responsibility as a young adult to keep up with your assignments.
